Do peace lilies need high humidity?

While peace lilies are native to tropical regions with high humidity, they can adapt to average indoor humidity levels. However, providing moderate to high humidity can benefit their overall health and appearance. Here are some points to consider regarding humidity for peace lilies:

  1. Moderate to High Humidity: Peace lilies appreciate moderate to high humidity levels, ideally between 40% and 60%. This level of humidity mimics their natural tropical habitat and helps to maintain healthy foliage and prevent leaf browning.
  2. Supplementing Humidity: If the air in your home is dry, especially during winter months or in air-conditioned environments, you can increase humidity around your peace lily in several ways:
    • Grouping plants together: Placing multiple plants together can create a microclimate with slightly higher humidity.
    • Use a humidity tray: Place the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles. As the water evaporates, it increases humidity around the plant.
    • Mist the leaves: Spraying the leaves with water using a spray bottle can provide a temporary boost in humidity. However, avoid misting if the environment is already very humid or if it can lead to prolonged wetness, which can encourage fungal diseases.
  3. Natural Humidity Sources: Placing peace lilies in naturally humid areas of the home, such as the bathroom or kitchen, can provide them with higher humidity levels. Bathrooms, in particular, often have higher humidity due to showering and can be an ideal location for peace lilies.

While peace lilies can tolerate lower humidity levels, providing them with moderate to high humidity can enhance their growth and keep their foliage lush and healthy. Remember to monitor the plant for signs of excessive humidity, such as fungal diseases, and adjust the humidity level accordingly.
